Connolly Family win medals at the English National Surf Championships

With Spring in full bloom we’ve been enjoying some awesome conditions for all of our clubs and surf lessons this half term. The water is finally warming up, so it’s nice to get in the surf with a little less neoprene now!
Our surf clubs have been keeping us super busy, with over 80 local children surfing across the different sessions each week, it’s so inspiring to see them all developing their skills and having loads of fun with their friends. We’ve especially been impressed by the large number of 6-9 years olds who have joined our Mini Grom sessions.  We’re taking bookings for the clubs next term as well, with a few sessions already busy, so if you’re keen to get involved please get in touch.
It’s also been good to see school groups returning for lessons at Discovery early season, and we’ve also been taking a lot of bookings for the ever popular Activity Weeks which run from the end of June and throughout July.
The Half term holiday is almost upon us and we’re open throughout the week with Kids Learn to Surf Lessons, Group surf lessons, private family lessons and the week long kids surf course (though this is very near fully booked now). We’ll have plenty of equipment for hire, so hopefully we’ll get some good conditions for surfing, bodyboarding, SUPing and kayaking.
In other news, the Connolly family represented Bigbury on-Sea/Discovery and headed to the English National Surfing Championships on the weekend of the 13th/14th of May, which saw surfers from across the country compete in good but challenging conditions at Watergate Bay in Cornwall. Sebastian, Kira, Martin and Annika all competed, and brought home medals as well!
Sebastian surfed in a very competitive Under 14 Boys field, getting through several heats to make the Final, where he surfed well, but just couldn’t secure the win, coming a very impressive 3rd place. Kira (only 10) competed in the Under 12 Girls and surfed her heart out finally coming 2nd in the Final! Martin enjoyed getting competitive with old friends and secured 3rd place in the Over 45’s Men Final and Annika competed for the first time in a few years to get a 2nd place on the podium in the Over 35 Ladies division. Big Thanks to Surfing England for putting on an awesome event.
We hope you’re enjoying these longer and warmer days as much as we are and we look forward to seeing many of you down the beach!
