Autumn NewsLetter 2026

Autumn Newsletter

It feels a little like the end of the season, but no! There’s still so much we’re up to and celebrating. The excited crowds and back to back sunny days may be behind us, but in their place are quiet beaches, with warm water, less crowds sharing the waves and rolling Autumn swell providing lots of fun surf.

Here’s a little round up of our summer and what we’ve got planned in the next couple of months:

Staff Party

Our traditional ‘end of main season’ party was a huge celebration of a fantastic summer where all of the team got together to share stories, eat good food (thanks Dave at The Causeway for hosting us), play party games and dance to some great tunes provided by resident DJ and awesome surf instructor Louis. We crowned the Instructor of the Year (Matt Juniper), Junior Surf Instructor of the Year (Frida Gallego-Cooper), Shop/Van Person of the Year (Holly Hughes) and Junior Shop/Wetsuit Monkey (Kira Connolly). We’re so proud of our whole team and the hard work they’ve put in this season.

Summer Holidays

It was probably the busiest summer we’ve had since the post covid staycation time, with everyone loving the daily sunshine (was it 5 heatwaves?!) The waves were small (but generally perfectly formed) and there were plenty of days where a kayak and paddleboard around the island were go to activities.  It was our second summer having 2 locations at Bigbury and Bantham, and the choice we offer continue to complement each other really well.

Autumn Lessons

We continue to be open everyday (subject to availability/good conditions), and have lessons and equipment hire available.  Weekends are busy with school groups - early September saw a number of groups joining us for new term extra curricular fun days out. We’ve also got rugby tour groups and parties making the most of the autumn.  If you’ve got a group you’d like to book in, please get in touch and we can explore some fun options with you.

Surf Club and Adult Surf Club

As ever, our clubs are very popular, and our Kids/Mini Grom Surf Clubs and Adult Surf Clubs have started the Autumn strongly.

There are 3 main Kids Surf Clubs Saturdays/Sundays/Monday after school and although the courses have already started there are still some spaces for drop in surfs if you’ve surfed with us before and want get in some sessions ad hoc.

There are a few sessions scheduled for the Adult Surf Club, so if you're looking to make real progress while balancing a busy lifestyle, come and join us.

October Half Term

We are open at Bigbury and Bantham throughout the October half term week/s, with group and private lessons running daily and a 3 day Kids/Youth Surf Course (w/c 26th Oct). We’ll also be open for equipment hire.

Now we’re into the quieter season, if you are keen hire equipment or find out about lessons, we recommend contacting us via email/text/phone, as we’re often in the surf or busy in the office making lots of plans for next year. More information coming about that over the next few months!

All the best - Annika, Martin, Jess and the Discovery Team
