2026 Spring Newsletter

Discovery Surf School June Newsletter
As we head into peak season, we’re feeling incredibly excited for the months ahead. The longer days and recent sunshine have made for some idyllic after-school surf sessions, and while the waves have been on the smaller side with those lingering easterly winds, we’ve been busy behind the scenes getting everything ready for another fantastic season across both of our venues.
Bigbury & Bantham
We’re delighted to be continuing surf lessons and equipment hire from both Bigbury and Bantham as we move into our second season operating on both sides of the River Avon. The two locations have complemented each other brilliantly, allowing us to offer even more flexibility and variety to our customers. Being able to run lessons at both beaches has added a whole new dynamic to what we can provide, and it’s been hugely popular with locals and visitors alike.
Adult Surf Club Growing Strong
Over the spring months, we’ve had a dedicated group of adults putting in regular practice and progression time through our Adult Surf Club and it’s been a huge success within the local community. These sessions are ideal for surfers who are already catching and standing on waves independently but want to build confidence in areas such as surf safety, etiquette, wave selection, and manoeuvres.
Surf Club Updates
Our long-standing and ever-growing Surf Club continues to run across both bases, and we’ve added plenty more dates to the diary for those waiting for slightly warmer sea temperatures before joining us! A quick reminder for anyone new to Surf Club: all beginners will need to complete either a full beginner lesson or a private lesson beforehand, helping to build confidence and independence in the water before joining group sessions.
Welcoming New Faces
The Discovery family keeps growing, and we’re excited to welcome some fantastic new team members this year.
You may spot Will Keatley lifeguarding on local beaches this summer, but he’ll also be bringing his SUP surf expertise to the team. Will holds a BSUPA qualification and is a keen competitor on the paddle racing scene, bringing great energy and experience to our sessions.
We’re also thrilled to have Seb Dickins joining our coaching team. Another familiar face in red and yellow on the local beaches, Seb is a talented all-round surfer with a calm, patient coaching style. You’ll see him in the red rash vest at both Bantham and Bigbury throughout the season.
Investing in the Future
We’re also proud to have several young and passionate coaches preparing to undertake their Surfing England Level 1 qualifications in July: perfectly timed ahead of what promises to be a very busy month of local school groups and summer activity.
More Than Just Surf Lessons
Alongside our Surf Club, beginner lessons, and private coaching, we’ve got plenty more on offer this season, including holiday activities and progression days for those looking to build their skills further. As well as SUP and kayak hire enabling you to get on the water every which way!
For more information, check out our website or give us a call, we’d love to chat about how we can help you make the most of the season ahead.
We can’t wait to see everyone in the water this summer!
