Surf lessons may not be on everyone’s mind in the depths of winter, but it’s a great time to start planning your activities for the forthcoming season, or even get ahead of the game and take advantage of the consistent swells and quiet line ups.
It’s been a good Winter so far for surf and here at Discovery we’ve stayed open throughout the Christmas and new year break delivering surf lessons for the keen few, who have been eager to get in. We’re busy preparing for the season ahead, and here is what you can expect:
Bigbury and Bantham
We’ll be continuing to deliver surf lessons and equipment hire from both Bigbury and Bantham, as we head into our 2nd season offering our services on both sides of the River Avon. The 2 venues have been very complementary to each other, and being able to offer our customers lessons at both has added another dynamic to the service that we can offer, and it has proved to be very popular.
Kids Surf Club
Developing the next generation of surfers has always been part of the core foundation and essence of Discovery, and our Surf Club has nurtured countless surfers over the past 3 decades. For 2026 our surf clubs will start up again after February Half term, and we’ll have courses available at both Bigbury and Bantham. We’re currently finalising the details and the Spring course information is available on our website.
Adult Surf Club
Last season we started an Adult Surf Club, and were pleasantly surprised at how popular it proved to be. We’re keen to build on that enthusiasm and will continue to run club sessions for this season. The club captured the hearts of beginners keen to develop their surf skills and intermediate surfers who needed help getting to the next level of their surfing journey.
The Adult Surf Club is a great opportunity to join likeminded individuals and feel part of a community, and we’ll continue to offer week day and weekend options, so everyone can fit surfing into their busy schedules.
Half Term and beyond
Discovery will be open for surf lessons at Bigbury and Bantham over the February Half term and depending on conditions we’ll have equipment hire available as well. It is super chilly this time of year, but not to worry as we have lots of great quality kit to keep you nice and toasty in the waves, including winter wetsuits, boots, gloves and hoods. Discovery will then be open for the rest of the season, and although not open on site everyday early season, if you’d like to arrange lessons and/or equipment hire, please contact us via phone/email/text and we can organise this for you.
We’re really looking forward to the 2026 season and seeing lots of you joining us at the beach!
