Autumn Newsletter

Pre Christmas Round Up

We hope you’re all settling into the shorter days and finding time to get cosy after some pretty wild surf lately! It’s been brilliant to see so many regulars braving the autumn conditions and getting some waves across the bay.

Adult Surf Club - extra date

Our Adult Surf Club sessions have been running through November, and we’ve had a steady run of swell which has been great for everyone developing their surf skills. It’s been a really popular addition to what we offer here at the surf school, and we're pleased to announce we've added a Bonus Date!  Next Sunday the 23rd November there is a bonus Adult Surf Club session at 12pm at Bigbury on-Sea. Cost: £29pp, limited availability, so book your place now!

Autumn Surf Club

For the groms, our Autumn Surf Club has been off to an awesome start; huge shoutout to all the super keen kids who’ve joined us in the water! We’re currently running our surf club at Bantham on Saturdays at 1pm and Bigbury on Sundays at 12pm until the beginning of December and then the club sessions take a little break before we get started back up again after the February Half Term.

Private Lessons & Gift Vouchers

We’re also still taking private lesson bookings right up until the New Year, so if you’re planning some family fun or want to give the gift of surfing this Christmas, get in touch,  surf lessons make the perfect present.

We have gift vouchers available on our website! 🎁 Or if you’d like to create a more bespoke gift for someone please contact us directly.

Bantham Boardriders

It was exciting to be part of the latest Bantham Boardriders Junior Surf Competition on a sunny day November. The waves pumped and the atmosphere was buzzing with so many frothing groms all keen to get involved, catch lots of waves and maybe come away with a prize. There were 3 divisions - Under 14 girls and boys, Under 12 boys and girls and mixed mini grom ‘assisted’ heat. It was fun, it was competitive and everyone had a brilliant time, and Discovery’s very own Kira Connolly was super stoked to come away with the win in the Under 14 girls division.

Equipment recycling

As a surf school that uses A LOT of kit, we inevitably have equipment that gets a bit too rough round the edges to economically repair. We are sustainably minded and are always investigating ways we can try to have less of a negative impact on our environment. We sell off old boards, and many of our slightly tired ex surf school boards have already gone off to loving new homes ready to hit the waves again!

And for charity, we have also held an ex-hire wetsuit sale, where we asked  for a minimum donation of £5 per suit, with proceeds going to St Luke’s Hospice Plymouth.  We have already raised a good bit of money for this worthy local charity, and have plenty of wetsuits left, so we’ll be bringing these out for sale on sunny weekends throughout winter and into spring, so keep an eye out on our socials and grab a bargain while supporting a great cause.

Hopefully see you at the beach in the next few weeks.

All the best - Annika, Martin, Jess and the Discovery Team
